Healing the Wounds of Attachment and Rebuilding Self

Take the next step of applying EMDR therapy to the treatment of developmental trauma using the client's adaptations to their attachment wounds to both understand and treat their relational difficulties. Through the lens of AIP, you will be better able to apply the three-pronged approach to EMDR therapy using past, present and future as targets and not only provide symptom relief, but help the client grow and change, both in relationship to themselves as well as with others.

This Advanced EMDR Training opens the door to a new level of effectiveness in your clinical work— especially when there’s a history of early developmental trauma and attachment injuries. It provides a new understanding of the power of the EMDR AIP model, three-pronged past, present, future approach and clinical interweaves. It takes you beyond identifying past traumas that inform a client's present-day struggles to a new awareness of how adaptations can be as disruptive in the present as the original traumatic events. This deeper, nuanced understanding provides multiple new doorways to healing, strengthening your skill and confidence in identifying which next step is best for your client.

This is Breakthrough Learning for Transformative Healing

This advanced training begins by going deep into attachment theory so you can identify your clients’ attachment styles and understand how they affect responses to others, to memory processing and to you.

This is the foundation for an expanded application of EMDR's powerful healing processes and protocols as a comprehensive psychotherapy. It represents a shift from addressing symptoms to healing the whole person and it's designed to strengthen your capacity to do what is best for your client—not fit your client into a the model. Among the things you can expect to gain from this advanced training:

  • Learn how to use Clinical Interweave Categories (CIC) for navigating moment-to-moment processing and repairing the emotional and developmental deficits that go hand in hand with complex trauma. This is something most other advanced EMDR trainings don’t tackle.
  • Increase your capacity to think clinically in terms of AIP case conceptualization. Go beyond symptoms to identify prominent clinical themes represented in the client’s presenting problem.
  • Confidently modify the three-pronged past, present and future protocol to address the evolving clinical demands of a case.
  • Strengthen your ability to identify multiple pathways to healing and choose which memories to target for processing first.
  • Discover the “art and timing” of EMDR therapy—prioritizing what to work on as a case evolves over time and issues shift from foreground to background and vice versa.
  • Use challenges in the therapeutic process as moments of opportunity to work through childhood wounds and strengthen a client's sense of secure attachment in the present.

Here's what your colleagues have to say:

Since undergoing my first weekend of EMDR Basic Training with Deany in 2014, I have taken several advanced courses over the years with numerous instructors, and Deany is by far the most knowledgeable, generous, and thought-provoking of them all. Her style of incorporating concepts from various areas of psychology and academic research into a cohesive understanding of how the human brain, heart, and body are intertwined, is impressive. Deany’s engaging personality and generous spirit in sharing her own clinical work for learning purposes makes for an inspiring learning experience. I look forward to her future offerings!
