Basic EMDR Training is a foundational course that therapists must undergo in order to become certified in EMDR therapy. Basic EMDR therapy training typically covers the theoretical background of EMDR, the specific protocols and procedures used in this form of therapy, and practical skills for implementing EMDR in clinical practice.
During Basic EMDR Training, therapists learn about the adaptive information processing model which provides a theoretical framework for understanding how traumatic memories are processed in the brain. They also learn about the eight-phase EMDR model, which involves assessing the client’s problem, establishing a therapeutic relationship, identifying target memories to reprocess, desensitization and reprocessing these memories, and implementing techniques to ensure the client feels safe and supported throughout the process. Therapists also learn how to use bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, hand tapping, or auditory tones, to facilitate the reprocessing of traumatic memories.
Take the First Step
Overall, Basic EMDR Training equips therapists with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively treat trauma and other psychological issues based on human experience. By understanding the theoretical underpinnings of EMDR and mastering the specific techniques and protocols used in this form of therapy, therapists are able to help clients process traumatic memories, reduce distressing symptoms, and achieve greater emotional and psychological well-being. Basic EMDR Training is an essential step in becoming a certified EMDR therapist and providing effective trauma-focused care to clients.
