Learning the Craft of EMDR as a Psychotherapy
Intermediate EMDR Training is an advanced level of training for mental health professionals who are looking to further enhance their skills in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. This training is typically offered to individuals who have already completed the basic level of EMDR training and have gained some experience in using the therapy with clients.
Intermediate EMDR Training focuses on deepening the therapist's understanding of the EMDR therapeutic process and refining their skills in administering the therapy effectively.
During Intermediate EMDR Training, participants are introduced to more complex cases and techniques that can be used with clients who have experienced severe trauma or have complex psychological issues. The training is designed to help therapists become more adept at identifying and addressing the underlying causes of their clients' symptoms and facilitating the healing process more effectively. In addition, participants learn how to adapt EMDR therapy to suit the individual needs of each client and how to handle any challenges that may arise during the therapeutic process.

What Can You Expect?
Our Intermediate EMDR Training is about integrating this approach as a psychotherapy by helping our clients grow and change beyond symptom relief. It combines formal instruction with hands-on guided practice sessions to deepen your understanding of how to work with clients who have ongoing difficulties with self-esteem, relationships and self-regulation.
You will:
- take a deep dive into AIP case conceptualization and treatment planning by studying actual client cases and how they evolve over time.
- learn how to identify clinical choice points that are informed by the client’s needs and readiness to approach.
- learn how to track the moment-to-moment unfolding of experience during reprocessing so you can facilitate the client’s experience.
- practice under the guidance of experienced EMDR therapists to help you lean into trusting the process.
Overall, Intermediate EMDR Training is a critical step in the professional development of therapists who wish to specialize in trauma therapy and help clients overcome deep-seated psychological issues. By expanding their knowledge and skills through this advanced training, therapists can provide more comprehensive and effective treatment to their clients, ultimately leading to better outcomes and improved mental health for those who have experienced trauma.
Intermediate EMDR Training equips therapists with the tools and expertise needed to make a real difference in the lives of their clients and help them move towards healing and recovery.
Why take this course?
EMDR therapy can be easy to learn but hard to do well. The protocols and the procedures are only one aspect of how EMDR is applied. Because our clients' struggles are often more complex and multi-faceted, we need to know how to map out the territory before we embark on the journey. And, as the journey unfolds, the landscape changes, which requires us to make clinical choices and to be in collaboration with our clients as we consider what paths to take.
EMDR as a Broad-based Psychotherapy
Whether it's a recent traumatic event or ongoing problems in relationships at home and at work, Intermediate EMDR Training takes us deeper into the client's developmental trauma. Not just about what happened, but what didn't happen that negatively impacted the client, leaving them to rely on their survival strategies in order to cope. This course will help you identify the areas our clients need to grow in order to be able to live life more fully - increase their capacity for curiosity and adventure, to be better able to take care of oneself and others, or to be part of something bigger than themselves.
