What Makes this Training Unique?
This is the only EMDRIA-certified EMDR training that zeroes in on the three elements that are key to practicing EMDR Therapy at the highest level.
The Craft of EMDR integrates all that we know now about trauma, attachment, somatic processes and affective neuroscience to heal the mind, body and spirit.
First, it takes you deep into the practical use of the powerful AIP model for case conceptualization and treatment planning.
Second, you’ll learn how to use cognitive interweaves with nuance and skill for memory reprocessing in cases of complex developmental trauma and attachment injuries.
Finally, this is the only EMDR training that includes supervised hands-on practice throughout so you can actually feel the power of applying the principles you’re learning.
Gain Skill and Confidence with Challenging Cases
The Craft of EMDR Therapy prepares you to
- Distinguish between the client’s symptoms versus their problems and develop a more comprehensive case conceptualization and treatment plan for more complex clinical cases;
- Identify client and clinical variables that factor into treatment planning;
- Strengthen motivational sets as preparation for processing;
- Bolster access to positive experiences throughout treatment, both in and out of processing, offsetting the client’s negativity bias and promoting a heightened sense of well being;
- Employ the Future Template as a means to address developmental deficits as well as identify needed skills and patterns or response;
- Reevaluate goals for treatment over time as therapy evolves.
No Other Training Offers Hands-On Practice Like This
Over a third of your time in this course is spent refining the skills you need to move to a new level of EMDR mastery. You’ll focus on:
- Tracking a client’s somatic experience in and out of processing, using the resonance between your own sensory experience and the client’s;
- Navigating the moment to moment unfolding of experience with specific skills that broaden or narrow the focus of attention;
- Using Adaptive Action tendencies as a road map to help clients develop and strengthen important life-promoting skills;
- Applying Clinical Interweave Categories (CIC) during processing to facilitate the client’s experience as well as optimize treatment effects.

Meet your Trainer
DEANY LALIOTIS, LICSW, LCSW-C
I’m Deany Laliotis, the Founder & Director of The Center. I am passionate about the power of EMDR therapy to transform lives. Since 1993, I had the privilege of working very closely with Dr. Francine Shapiro, the originator of EMDR, and was mentored by her until her death in 2019. I was the Director of Training for EMDR Institute Inc., the program developed by Dr. Shapiro that trained clinicians all over the world in EMDR therapy. We trained thousands of EMDR therapists over the years in this comprehensive approach to healing trauma. My vision has always been to offer a continuum of trainings from Basic to Masterclasses, which is what The Center currently offers. We welcome you to join us as part of our community of lifelong learners!
Continuing Education Information
The Craft of EMDR Therapy: Taking it to the Next Level
Presented by: The Center for Excellence in EMDR Therapy
Course: Live Online
CE Credits: 30.5 CE Credits
Instructional Level: Intermediate
Target Audience: This training is appropriate for doctoral‑level psychologists and other independently licensed mental health professionals.
Course Description
This course is for mental health clinicians who work with complex developmental trauma and need more clinical flexibility while building on their foundational knowledge of EMDR therapy. This training takes the focus of treatment beyond symptom relief to a more holistic approach, emphasizing the importance of meeting developmental milestones that were missed in childhood, helping clients shift from surviving to thriving. It also offers clinicians more advanced skills in case conceptualization and treatment planning as well as offer specialized protocols to better meet the client’s needs. The importance of a strong therapeutic alliance with clients who present with developmental trauma and relationship difficulties is addressed with an emphasis on generating a mutually elaborated understanding and agreement about the healing journey and the process of change. We will also review the use of clinical interweaves to optimize processing and offer specific techniques to facilitate nonverbal tracking of the client’s experience. Clinicians will learn through didactic presentation, video recordings of actual client sessions, and through expert-guided, hands-on practice sessions with one another throughout the training.
Learning Objectives
- Explain the precepts of the AIP model of EMDR therapy
- Identify one or more clinical challenges common in working with clients who have CPTSD
- Identify and distinguish between the defensive action system and the attachment system
- Evaluate client skills and capacities to determine readiness
- Examine a sample case to identify client problems and strengths
- Identify one or more adaptations to unresolved trauma that can be a focus of treatment
- Demonstrate use of the Future Vision to help clients define their goals for therapy
- Identify the three components of a strong therapeutic alliance
- Identify at least three categories of clinical interweaves and how they are used to facilitate reprocessing
- Demonstrate the Dynamic Reevaluation phase with complex trauma and how positive experiences are strengthened
- Identify one or more reasons to use the Life Stress Protocol
- Demonstrate the use of Life Stress Protocol
